On a Wing and a Prayer

On a wing and a prayer: the race that stopped the world tells the story of the 1934 MacRobertson Trophy London to Melbourne air race conceived by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne and enabled by the great confectioner McPherson Robertson.  It was an 18,000-kilometre race distinguished by its audacity – flight was still evolving, as was the smallish city that hosted the event. This true tale is littered with colourful characters, stunning good fortune and catastrophes of a personal and life-threatening nature, all powered by the hope of adrenaline filled adventurers – the pilots. Its breathtaking denouement over Albury is a little-known story whereas it should be an Australian legend. It is a story widely known in the Netherlands. The book was published by Text Publishing in 2019.
